Reflux Be Gone!

Last week Miss Montgomery continued to have a rough time sleeping at night and I noticed she was increasingly upset after every feeding. I knew she had some reflux problems so we always try to keep her upright for eating and sleeping but they seemed to be getting worse and I just couldn’t stand that she would cry out and writhe around in pain! So I made an appointment to go back to the doc and I wrote down a pattern of her behavior and symptoms over the course of three days. The doc confirmed that she has reflux and gave her a prescription for Prevacid. (We had been giving her Maalox, per the doc’s first suggestion, but it just wasn’t working well enough.) We have to cut the Prevacid table in half and dissolve it in water and squirt it into her mouth twice a day. We started that on Thursday and I can definitely see a notable improvement!!! She still fusses a little after she eats but not much and she’s only waking up once at night to eat – yea!

Last night we had her lying flat on the bed playing for about 20 minutes and she seemed happy – but that was a big NO-NO! I guess the flat time pulled her acids up and she started shrieking and writhing around and crying. I felt so bad that we had put her flat like that! I held her over my shoulder for about 30 minutes until she was sound asleep and limp in my arms (which, by the way, is the BEST feeling ever!).

Yesterday I had her in the Baby Bjorn and she was sound asleep when Scott came up to her and grabbed her feet. She was so startled that she jumped up and shrieked! She made an angry/scared face and then her bottom pouty lip came out and she started to wail this soulful cat-like cry. What a mean mean Daddy! (OK, it was funny but not nice!) I wish I had a picture of it.

My Aunt Betsy was in town on Tuesday on her book tour. She recently published her first novel called Hallam’s War (click here to check it out!). My Mom and step dad had a nice cocktail reception party for her at their house – Montgomery was a big hit! She wore an adorable green with white polka dots knit “tennis” dress and pale green bloomers. Too cute.

I will try to post some new photos this week. Tomorrow is her 12-week birthday so we’ll definitely have photos for that!

Stretch It Out

For those of you who have met my little Bumble Bee, you have probably witnessed "the stretch". She LOVES to stretch...A LOT. It's an arms-over-the-head, legs curled, head back, face tighened, belly out, back arched full body stretch. And not just once, she'll do it for about five minutes when she wakes up in the morning, when she wakes up from a nap, when you take her out of her swing, when you put her on the changing table - everywhere! Here are some photos. I'll have to capture it on video and post it too.







Apparently, Daddy's arm is very comfortable for sleeping.

Dilbert

This doesn't have anything to do with little Birdie but it's a good indicator of my corporate life so I thought I'd include it!

11 pounds 4 ounces

Today is my first day back at work, which means I had to leave my little Bumble Bee behind today with a nanny!! I am not TOO stressed about it though because it’s not like I am leaving her completely ALONE with the nanny. Scott is there all day and checks on her regularly and Sandy is there too so they are on-site in case something happens. And at this stage when MMF is not even mobile yet, it’s not like I worry about her walking around unsupervised sticking her fingers in electrical sockets. She pretty much just sits there and eats and sleeps and cries and smiles and giggles (if I’m lucky). When she gets to crawling and walking, then I’ll be a little more stressed!

She’s been super happy in the mornings lately – she wakes up and stretches for about 5 minutes, then smiles and giggles for awhile. I swear I had a complete conversation with her the other day! We exchanged a 5-minute series of expressive oooohs and ahs and coos and smiles. She’s sleeping a bit better and a bit longer too.

We went in last week for her immunizations and her 2-month check up. She weighed in at 11 pounds 4 ounces! The doctor said she might have acid reflux and not colic. I thought they had to be spitting up and throwing up a lot for acid reflux but he said they can have it where it just comes half way up her esophagus and burns her throat but never to the point where she actually spits up. Now that I read more about the symptoms, I really think that’s what it’s been! Poor MFF!!!! She refuses to ever sleep lying flat, she gets upset right after she eats, she makes little fists and arches her back and throws her head back after she eats– which is apparently a big sign of reflux. Doc said to give her 1 – 2 ml of Maloxx and see if that helps. OK, she HATES the Maloxx but I manage to get her to swallow a little and it seems be helping. She slept last night for over five hours straight!!!

Rough Day at the Office

A Week of Firsts

We've had several "firsts" this week:

1. We slept in our actual crib in the nursery for the first time (ok, it was just a nap but it was still a first).

2. We had a first "play date". My friend Marina's son Andrew is a month older than MMF. Not much of a play date when neither participant can even hold their head up yet, but it was cute nonetheless.

3. We put on our first real "outfit" (as opposed to just a onesie).

4. We had our first explosive doo doo. OK, this milestone probably isnt one to brag about but I found it amusing so I thought I'd include it. She was sitting cradled in her swing, which is why the doo doo came up the front and not the back of her onesie.

Two-Month Birthday!

If you go by the theory that 4 weeks = 1 month, then today is MMF's 2-month birthday! She's 8 weeks old today. Her "calendar" birthday will be June 8th. Here is a series of photos where she is making some seriously silly faces!

Not much new to report. MMF will be 8 weeks old tomorrow - where has the time gone!!?? Lately she's really starting to smile and grin a lot - which OF COURSE - just melts your heart.

We went to dinner the other night kinda late - didnt get there until around 9pm. MMF got a little fussy half way through so Scott took her out of her carrier and gently held her over his shoulder while we ate, then put her back in her carrier when she was asleep. When we left, a couple got up from their table and came over to ask how old MMF is. Then the guy said to Scott, "I have to compliment you on how you handle her. It's great to see a Dad so involved." I thought that was awesome!!!!

On another note, I am not really into dressing her up in pink and cute little bows so I tend to put her in neutral colors like green or yellow or purple, with some pink mixed in here and there. But I've found that people seem to think she's a BOY if I dont put something girly on her!!! So, I've gotten in touch with my feminine side and started putting her in lots of pink and even a bow in her hair. I have to admit, it looks REALLY REALLY cute.
